WordPress is a popular blogging platform, used widely by bloggers ( as well as pro bloggers ). WordPress was started in year 2003 with a single bit of code to enhance the typography of everyday writing and with fewer users than you can count on your fingers and toes. Since then it has grown to be the largest self-hosted blogging tool in the world, used on hundreds of thousands of sites and seen by tens of millions of people every day.

Recently wordpress released version 2.8 and since then it has released a number of Release Candidate’s and Beta’s to overcome the bugs.

In a recent development, on 20th July WordPress released version 2.8.2 which mainly focuses on fixing XSS vulnerability issues.

Here is an excerpt regarding the release of version 2.8.2 form the WordPress official blog :-

WordPress 2.8.2 fixes an XSS vulnerability. Comment author URLs were not fully sanitized when displayed in the admin. This could be exploited to redirect you away from the admin to another site.

All those who are using older version will get an update message on top of their Dashboard asking for a upgrade. This being said, i would suggest you to wait till the plugins ( You are using ) are made compatible with the latest release.
